PPA (Paperboard Packaging Alliance) Student Design Challenge 2016

The Challenge
Design an unconventional, innovative premium package for dry goods food packaging. The package should contain a structural component that enhances its function and stands out on upscale grocery store shelves.

Design Explained
We chose a simple but ergonomic design that uses perforation in three places.
The first tear-off (on the far right shown above) is to access the package itself.
The second and third tear-offs are when you are part-way through using the product. This makes it so you don’t have to reach deeper into the package.

Use of Perforation
1. Allows for the size of the package to become compact. This makes it so that the consumer does not have to reach down way into the package to pull out a cookie.
2. Helps keep the cookies fresh a little longer. For example, the consumer can "tear-off" or open a portion of the package to enjoy one of the flavours as opposed to all of the flavours at once.

Our product explores a new shape and form on store shelves. It can be easily recognized and spotted by its triangular prism shape. It uses paperboard which is a renewable and recyclable source.

Brainstorming. A lot of ideas were thrown around for the box's packaging. Here are some examples of the various ideas we came up with. We eventually chose a triangular prism as our packaging as nature's strongest shape.
